For many visitors from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Scandinavia or the United States, a week in Courchevel starts at Geneva Airport, with a mountain drive still ahead. How long does it really take, and is it better to drive yourself or be driven? Here is an honest answer, based on how Corsiva works from its agency in Chambéry.

In short

The essentials
  • Allow roughly two and a half hours in clear conditions, and considerably more on a winter Saturday.
  • Self-drive: we can deliver the car to Geneva Airport on quote; as Geneva is in Switzerland, the international cover option (€20 a day, subject to approval) is required.
  • Or let the car wait in the resort: delivery and collection in Courchevel (the price is shown when you book), or at your chalet on quote.
  • With a chauffeur: €400 a day on top of the car rental, travel costs quoted case by case.
  • No handovers on Saturdays: plan around the Friday or the Sunday.

The journey: route and realistic timings

From Geneva Airport, the route crosses into Haute-Savoie, heads south towards Albertville by way of Annecy or Chambéry, then climbs the Tarentaise valley through Moûtiers to the villages of Courchevel. Depending on the route, that is roughly 150 to 200 km, ending with a mountain road for the final climb.

How long does it take? In clear conditions and normal traffic, allow roughly two and a half hours. We prefer to stay cautious: on winter Saturdays, when most chalet weeks change over, traffic builds up in the Tarentaise valley, and snowfall slows everything down. On those days, the same journey can take much longer. Add time for luggage, a break and possible checks at the border, and look at road conditions before you leave.

Motorway tolls apply on the French side and are never included in our rentals.

Option 1: drive yourself

Collect the car at Geneva Airport

We can deliver the car to Geneva Airport on quote: send us your arrival time and our team will price the delivery. As Geneva is in Switzerland, the international cover option is required, at €20 a day subject to approval; it extends to Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Spain. The car is then yours from the airport to the chalet, and for the whole week.

Have the car waiting in Courchevel

If you travel up to the resort another way, the car can be delivered to Courchevel, delivery and collection included (the price is shown when you book), or straight to your chalet or hotel at a rate based on distance and confirmed by our team. You skip the mountain drive after a flight and still have the car for the rest of your stay.

Either way, the car is winter-equipped from November to March at no extra cost, with 200 km a day included.

Option 2: a chauffeur-driven transfer

For many arrivals, being driven is the better choice: no unfamiliar mountain road after a travel day, and time to work or rest in the back. The chauffeur meets you on arrival, takes care of luggage and skis, and drives you to the door of your chalet or hotel. The exact pick-up point is agreed when booking, according to your flight and the airport's rules.

  • Price: the chauffeur costs €400 a day on top of the car rental. Travel costs are calculated for each itinerary and tolls are never included: the full quote depends on the trip.
  • Geneva: as the route starts in Switzerland, the international cover option applies (€20 a day, subject to approval).
  • Flexibility: by the trip or by the day; the chauffeur can also remain at your disposal during your stay.
  • Booking: give us your flight number, expected arrival time and the number of passengers, bags and skis. You receive a full quote; a 30% down payment by secure Stripe link confirms it, and cancellation is free up to 7 days before.

Which car for the drive up

For an airport-to-resort journey in winter, choose space and grip:

  • Mercedes G 63 AMG 2025: 585 hp twin-turbo V8, permanent four-wheel drive, five seats and room for skis and large suitcases. From €1,000 a day; €15,000 deposit.
  • Porsche Cayenne Coupé: hybrid, 462 hp, all-wheel drive, five seats (the fifth is smaller) and a generous boot. From €450 a day; €7,000 deposit.

The Porsche Taycan and the BMW M3 Competition are better suited to clear roads and the valleys than to a snowy climb with a full load of luggage.

Saturday arrivals: plan the handover

Most chalet weeks start on a Saturday, but our deliveries, collections, pick-ups and returns take place from 9am to 8pm, Sunday to Friday; the agency is closed on Saturdays. A car therefore cannot be handed over on a Saturday, at the airport or in the resort.

If you land on a Saturday, the simplest approach is often to make your own way up and have the car delivered to your chalet on the Sunday or, if your dates allow, to arrive on the Friday. For a chauffeur-driven transfer, send us your flight details and our team will tell you what can be arranged. A rental that covers a weekend lasts at least two days.

Alternatives: Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Chambéry

  • Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport is about an hour from Chambéry, and Chambéry about 90 minutes from Courchevel: allow roughly two and a half hours to the resort in clear conditions. Car delivery to the airport is on quote, chauffeur-driven transfers are available, and the route stays in France.
  • Chambéry–Savoie Airport, at the southern tip of Lake Bourget, is the closest to our agency. Delivery to the airport is at a distance-based rate confirmed by our team, and transfers with a chauffeur are available on quote.
  • By train: if you arrive in Chambéry by rail, collecting the car at our agency or at Chambéry station is free.
